(2) I listened to my 18.03 (diff eq) professor sing in class, to general applause and awe. (3) I ate my first blueberry bagel ever and decided immediately to eat many more in the future. (4) I learned that the ratio of Dunkin Donuts to Starbucks locations in Watertown, MA is like 200:1. Seriously. Soo many Dunkins. ~and~ (5) I had a blast at Culture Show 2011 :) C-Show is an annual event put on each April by the South Asian American Society (SAAS). It brings together MIT students from a variety of races, backgrounds, and years for what is essentially one big showcase of music and dance. I blogged a little about C-Show previously, even though I didnt get a chance to take part in C-Show last year. I did this year though! This years theme was Inception, and interspersed between the different acts were short video sequences, scripted by Ram 13 and Dhruv 13 (this years C-Show chairs), and edited by Rishi 14 (yup, this Rishi). These segments told the story of an inception attempt that failed in the face of true love; they were absolutely hilarious. Partly because I was participating in some of the acts and partly because I maxed out my memory card, I only got a chance to capture a few videos of performances, one of which you can check out on here. Ive been having some trouble uploading videos; once I fix it, Ill add more to my public :) Edit: More C-Show videos can be found here; thanks to Jeanne 13 for uploading them! Itââ¬â¢s not because he wanted to kill him itââ¬â¢s because he had to if he want to see his mum and dad together. He wanted his mum and dad together since they divorced. They divorced when Tom was very little so he doesnââ¬â¢t have that much memory of his mum and dad together. Mr.Diver is Tomââ¬â¢s mumââ¬â¢s future husband. Tom hated Mr.Diver since he first met him. Mr.Diver is a fat man with hardly any neck. Mr.Diver is a bus driver. If you ask Tom what is his favourite day is he would say Friday because that is the day Tom meets his dad. Mr.Newton is his dad and there is a big difference between Mr.Newton and Mr.Diver maybe this is the reason why Tom hates Mr.Diver. Mr.Newton is a skinny man with long neck. Normally Tom and his dad spend Friday afternoons either playing football or go to a restaurant. In restaurant they talk about what happened during the week. Since Tom heard that his mum is going to marry Mr.Diver he thought he must stop this marriage if he doesnââ¬â¢t his dreams will be shattered. So he planned to kill Mr.Diver. He came up with a brilliant plan. The plan was to kill Mr.Diver when he comes around Tomââ¬â¢s house. But there shouldnââ¬â¢t be anyone in Tomââ¬â¢s house apart from Tom and Mr.Diver. The day came when Tomââ¬â¢s mother told Tom and Mr.Diver that they have to stay alone. That night Tom made a plan that he is going to stab Mr.Diver and he kept things normal as possible. He didnââ¬â¢t make sudden movements or speak to Mr.Diver too much because he never speaks to Mr.Diver normally. Tom kept penknives in his pocket and waited for exact moment to come. The moment came when Mr.Diver asked Tom if he want something to eat? Tom thought that when Mr.Diver is preparing the food he could go behind him and stab him. ââ¬Å"Do you want anything to eat Tom?â⬠asked Mr.Diver again. ââ¬Å"Can I have a sandwich please?â⬠said Tom. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ll make one quickly,â⬠said Mr.Diver. When Mr.Diver went to the kitchen to make a sandwich Tom went quietly behind him. Tom stopped near the kitchen door for a few seconds and took two penknives out. Tom saw that Mr.Diver is showing his back to him so Tom seized the chance and walked behind Mr.Diver and stabbed him once in the back and once in the neck. Tom put the body in Mr.Diverââ¬â¢s car, which was a bit far away from Tomââ¬â¢s house so it would look like when Mr.Diver got on the car someone stabbed him. When his mum Tom said nothing he just watched TV. ââ¬Å"Whereââ¬â¢s Mr.Diver?â⬠asked Tomââ¬â¢s mum. ââ¬Å"Oh he left already,â⬠said Tom. ââ¬Å"You should go to bed,â⬠said Tomââ¬â¢s mum. ââ¬Å"Why what is the time?â⬠asked Tom. He wanted to find out if the police had found it out. Third lesson the receptionist came and asked Tom to take his things and come with her and Tom knew that it was about Mr.Diver. His mum was in the reception and she said Tom to come with her and tom asked why and she said that sheââ¬â¢d tell him on the way. ââ¬Å"Why did you come to the school? Whatââ¬â¢s wrong? ââ¬Å"Mr.Diver is dead,â⬠said Tomââ¬â¢s mum ââ¬Å"Who did a such a terrible thing?â⬠asked Tom. ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s what police trying to find out. He was found in his car stabbed and the police things that someone tried to steal his car and didnââ¬â¢t succeed so they killed him,â⬠said Tomââ¬â¢s mum. Tom was about to ask why didnââ¬â¢t they take the car but he thought better leave it. When he and his mum came to their house they saw that the police was in. ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t worry they just taking photos of the scene,â⬠said Tomââ¬â¢s mum. Tom now felt that his next step was to tell his father what happened and say to him that he should speak to Tomââ¬â¢s mum and tell her exactly what happened and the reason for Tom to kill Mr.Diver and Tom believed by this his mum and dad would come together. The following Friday Tom met his dad and his dad asked him what happened to Mr.Diver and Tom told him exactly what happened and told him to say to his mum. A row or column can also be inserted by right clicking the row number or column header and by clicking the Insert from the pop-up menu. Alternately, to insert a row or column, right ââ¬âclick a cell and from the pop-up menu, choose Insert option. Select the Entire row or Entire column option to insert a row or column in the worksheet. Deleting rows and columns When rows are deleted in the worksheet the rows below the deleted row move up to fill the space, when columns are deleted, the columns to the right are shifted to the left. To delete a row or column, click the row number or column letter on the row or column to be deleted and then select the Delete option from the Edit menu to delete more than one row or column drag over the row numbers or column letters for selecting them. Alternately, right- click the selection and choose Delete from the popup menu. The rows and columns are renumbered automatically (deleted) Merging Cells MS-Excel allows merging data in one cell with adjacent cells (that are blank) to form a big cell. Merging cells is useful especially while creating a decorative title for the worksheet. To create a title with merged cells. Follow the steps given below: à ¬Ã ¬Ã ¬Ã ¬* Enter the title in the upper-left cell of the range. To enter multi-line title, press ALT+ENTER to insert each new line. * Select the range in which the title has to be placed. * Click Cells from the Format menu. The Format Cells dialog box appears. * Click the Alignment tab. * Click the Merge Cells check box and click ok. We can merge and center the data in the cell quickly by clicking the Merge and Center button on the Formatting toolbar. Inserting and deleting Cells Inserting Cells will cause the data in the existing Cells to shift down a row or over a column for creating space for the new cells. Follow the steps given below to insert a single cell or group of cells. * Select the area where the new cell(s) are to be inserted. Excel will insert the same number of cells as selected. * Choose Cells from Insert menu. The Insert dialog box appears. * Select Shift Cells Right or Shift Cells Down and Click Ok. To delete the cells completely, follow the steps given below: * Select the cell or range of cells to be deleted. * Choose Delete from the Edit menu. Clearing contents of cells When cells are deleted, they are removed from the worksheet and surrounding cells are shifted to fill in the space. But when a cell is cleared, the cell remains in the worksheet while the contents, format or notes of the cells are cleared. Editing a Template To make changes to a template, follow the given below:- -Click the open button in the standard tool bar. -Navigate to the template folder. -Double click the template to be edited. -Make the necessary changes and click save button on the standard tool bar. -Close the template. MS-Excel allows many commands or actions or operations to be reversed or roll back i. e. an action can be undone by selecting the undo option from edit menu or by pressing the Ctrl+Z key combination from the keyboard. It can deselect or undo previous action or operations. The undo option can be selected by clicking the undo button having anti clockwise arrow on standard toolbar. Excel also provides a command to repeat the action by selecting redo option from the edit menu or by pressing the Ctrl + Y key combination as shortcut key. The redo option can be selected by clicking the redo button having clockwise arrow on the standard toolbar. PRINTNG This section describes the printing process of MS-Excel. MS-Excel provides a number of options to improve the appearance of printouts of worksheets and charts. The File menu has four options related to printing. These are page Setup, print Area. Print preview and Print. These are explained as under: Page Set Up-Page Setup displays a four-part dialog that is used to lay out page. Click the appropriate tab to display the corresponding dialog. Page: This dialog box is used to set page orientation, Scaling and paper size. Margins: This dialog box is used to set the left, right, top and bottom margins, the distance from the distance from the edge of the page to headers or footers, and page centering. Click options to select paper, print quality, fonts, and device options. Header and Footer: If one wish to use headers or footers, use this dialog to create and position the text. The Custom buttons provide the ability to insert the page number, data, time, filename, tab name. One can also arrange the header/footer information at the left, center or right. Sheet :- It is used to set the print area, repeating row and column title, and page printing order i. e. down then over or over then down. User can enter a print area by clicking the button in the print area box and then dragging the desired cell range. Rows and columns print titles can also be entered by picking the desired cells. User can also print gridlines, column and row headings, comments, and set black and set black and white and draft quality printing. Print Area: It is used to select or to clear the current range of selected cells. Print preview: Print Preview is used to display an image of the printed page before send it to printer. It is noted that print Preview gives you direct access to the print and page setup dialog boxes. The other buttons let you page through a large worksheet, zoom (enlarge or reduce the display), display and adjust margin guidelines, close the preview, and display Help. This topic is the subtopics from the main chapter 3 which is Sequences and String. From this chapter basically this chapter help student especially in the application of computer programming. In this era of information technology humans have been doing math and physics for a long time until now in such from the geometry and logic of the Greek era of the Mediterranean, the numeracy of the Hindus in India, and also the development of algebra by Islamic scholars in Baghdad, until to the explosion of knowledge and learning in Europe after the invention of movable type. In 1970s, the string theory was born. Three particle theorists have been independently realize that the dual theories developed in 1968 to describe the particle spectrum. The quantum mechanics of oscillating strings also have been described. Thus it marks the official birth of string theory. Moreover, string theory is the leading candidate theory of quantum gravity. In fact, there are several consistent variants and they all have the certain common features. Next is the concatenation of two or more numbers is the number formed by concatenating their numerals. For example, the concatenation of 1, 234, and 5678 is 12345678. The value of the result depends on the numeric base, which is typically understood from the context. For substring, given a group G of order g, then let U denote the set of all ordered multi-sets of elements of G. This will let V denote the subset of U consisting of multi-sets with exactly g components, and let A denote the subset of V consisting of multi-sets of exactly g distinct components. Languages and natural languages In information technology (IT), especially in computer programming, we are sometimes required to process a language. So, basically from discrete mathematics we will learn the concept of languages in a systematic way. For example, a compiler is a software that can translate a computer program written in a particular language into another language which is usually into a machine language. While for natural language processing is a study of how to produce the computer software that is capable of understanding natural language. We start with the 26 characters A-Z, and string them to form a word. Thus, the language will consist of a collection of such words. Example: The strings beach and ball may be concatenated to give beachball. First example: The following expression use the + symbol as the concatenation operator to join 2 strings: Print hi, + dear; produces the concatenated string hi, dear by joining those 2 strings Second example, (wet+land) is equals to (wetland). It shows that concatenation can be achieved with the + string operator. By doing this mini project we have investigated that the applications of this topic in discrete mathematics involve in the areas of computer science and IT. Nowadays, most modern computer program are represented by finite sequences of characters. We therefore need to develop the algebraic way such as string for handling such finite sequences. Moreover, this string topic is important to be learned by the student as it much involve in the application of computer programming. In computer programming, essentially, the string is a sequence of characters which is generally understood as a data type usually storing data values usually bytes. The elements usually stand for characters according to a character encoding, which will differentiates it from the other general array data type. Thus, the terms binary string and byte string are used to suggest strings in which the stored data does not necessarily represent text. While in discrete mathematics we learn string as mathematical structures. As we have doing our research on this topic, we can see that this topic involve much in the application of computer programming. Platos Allegory of the Cave in Pleasantville Essay
Writer and director Gary Ross captured the essence of Platoââ¬â¢s philosophical views in his movie, Pleasantville. The movie is about two siblings, David and Jennifer, who live in completely different high school social scenes. Jennifer is the wild, extroverted teen who is obsessed with partying and boy drama. David, on the other hand, is a social outcast and spends most of his time watching TV, specifically, his favorite show, Pleasantville. David idolizes the show because of the perfect town in which everyone is accepted and there is never anything that goes wrong. When the siblingsââ¬â¢ mother goes away, the two are left arguing over what TV channel to watch. As their fighting develops, they eventually break the remote, which leads to theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Because the people of Pleasantville and David and Jen learn new things about themselves, they all escaped the cave and gathered knowledge. The road to enlightenment was not an easy road, however. David and Jennifer had a difficult time maturing and leaving behind their old masks; the town of Pleasantville had a very difficult time gaining a new perspectiveââ¬âthe town leaders tried everything they could to forbid people from leaving their perfect little world. This parallel of the cave explains Platoââ¬â¢s first conclusion of how education can often be difficult because it means turning your back on everything familiar. The movie also very clearly identifies with Platoââ¬â¢s second conclusion that explains why philosophers are often ridiculed. When Jennifer and David were transported to Pleasantville, they were immediately hated for disrupting the order in the town. They had to learn how to cope with a completely different world, while also instilling in others their new perspective and experience. While Pleasantville is black and white, the town represents the ignorance that people in the cave feel. However, when the town begins to turn to color, the people are fin ally seeing the light and escaping from the cave. This I somewhat ironic because, for both the people of Pleasantville and David and Jen, they all begin their journey in black and white. This is interesting because, from Jen and Davidââ¬â¢s
